Will fans accept a Han Solo that isn't Harrison Ford? Is this a story that "Star Wars" fans want to be told?  We'll find out on May 25th!

(WARNING: Podcast and descriptions contain spoilers from "Star Wars: The Last Jedi")

It was one of the most dramatic scenes in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi":  Vice-Admiral Amilyn Holdo (played by Laura Dern) flies her ship at lightspeed through the First Order flagship "The Supremacy," splitting Snoke's massive ship in two, nobly sacrificing herself to allow what remained of the Resistance to escape to the planet Crait.

In this episode of the podcast, Adam Thomas, Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth draw on their years of experience from watching "Law & Order" and "Perry Mason" to hold a trial in absentia for Vice-Admiral Holdo, considering whether such an act, "from a certain point of view" (to quote Ben Kenobi) could be considered a war crime.

Join us for this humorous debate, then BECOME the jury and comment below on whose side won the case!

Honorary fangirl Becky Bruce guest hosts this interview with actor Corey Feldman at the Sundance Film Festival. The actor talks about some of his proudest moments as well as what he's working on now - a movie / documentary follow up to his book, Coreyography, in what's become known as Corey Feldman's Truth Campaign. The star of The Goonies, Stand By Me, Lost Boys and Dream a Little Dream said both he and his best friend, the late Corey Haim, were abused as a child in Hollywood, and Feldman has been vocal about fighting against what he says is rampant corruption and sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.

Andy Farnsworth of SLC Fanboys sat down with the directors of Summer of '84, a Sundance film that echoes The Goonies, Stand By Me and Stranger Things. It's a horror movie with lots of heart and humor - demonstrated when actor Caleb Emery crashed our interview!

Summer of '84 follows conspiracy-theorist Davey as he and his best buds decide to spend their summer discovering the truth about his neighbor Mr. Mackey, convinced that he is the local serial killer plastered all over the news. Delivering the camaraderie, adventure, mystery, joy and retro nostalgia of The Goonies, Stand by Me, and Stranger Things, Summer of '84 will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat and rethinking everything you thought you knew about your safe suburban neighborhood.

Directors Francois Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell got their big break with 2015's Turbo Kid. Written by Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith, this was featured on the 2016 'Blood List' selection of the best dark genre screenplays.

Virtual reality seems to be the hit of Sundance this year, with a number of VR experiences on the program. But if you don't want to buy fancy and expensive equipment to view that type of content, in the past, immersive video could be out of your reach. Vassiliki Khonsari and Brooks Brown, just two of the creative minds behind a project called HERO joined guest host Heather Kelly of Money Making Sense to explain how SLC Fanboys fans will find virtual reality become actual reality in the near future.

HERO is described as a multi-sensory experience designed to immerse the user in the realities of civil war and civilian warfare. The narrative evolves and changes as the user progresses and engages. The experience is on display through the film festival at the Kimball Art Center

Heather Kelly guest hosts for the SLC Fanboys in this interview with "Ophelia" Director Claire McCarthy. They talk about film, theater, what it's like to be a woman in Hollywood, and much more.

The film premieres at the Sundance Festival, and features Star Wars' Daisy Ridley, Harry Potter's Tom Felton, and screen veterans Naomi Watts and Clive Owen, among others.

Filmmakers Yoann Whissell, Anouk Whissell and Francois Simard are the team behind the film that is far and away getting the most buzz at the Sundance Film Festival: Summer of '84. A horror flick that echoes The Goonies, IT, and Stand By Me, the plot follows four friends who are convinced their neighbor is a serial killer. But true danger lurks around the corner with twists and turns you'll have to see for yourself. Andy Farnsworth interviews the directors and surprise guest Caleb Emery, who crashes the party.

In this episode, Andy Farnsworth and Aaron Zundel are joined once again by guest comic book expert Josh Leavitt to give a spoiler-free review of Marvel's "The Punisher" series on Netflix.

Jon Bernthal (from "The Walking Dead") stars as Frank Castle, a war veteran who wants revenge on the criminal scum that killed his family, and his brand of justice doesn't include jail, lawyers or courts.  We first met Castle, who calls himself "The Punisher," in season two of "Daredevil" on Netflix, but now Castle is featured in his own (hyper-violent) series.

If you haven't watched the series yet and are on the fence, give us a listen and see if we convince you!

NOTE: We also have a podcast episode on the history of "The Punisher," both in the comics and on-screen (that DOES contain spoilers) that we recommend you check out as well!

Tysen Webb, Andy Farnsworth and Aaron Zundel react to what they saw (Heroes reunited! Earth in peril! Thanos in action!) and what they liked, plus we talk about what this could mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.

In this episode, Andy Farnsworth, Aaron Zundel and Tysen Webb are joined by comics superfan Josh Leavitt to review "Justice League" and talk about whether or not the DCEU is finally on track after an extremely rough start.

With the exception of Wonder Woman's mega-hit solo movie, the other DCEU films have had a less-than-stellar reception from fans, but now all their eggs are in one basket.

We talk about whether or not "Justice League" works, whether we think Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon do a better job portraying the characters this time than the previous movies, and how we rate the health of the DCEU going forward.  This one is not to be missed!

"The Orville," is the newest Star Trek parody on Fox TV from creator Seth McFarlane.  Or is it?  This new series has defied expectations by attempting to be more than just a "Galaxy Quest" rip-off and instead creating a hybrid of humor and heart that actually feels like a spiritual successor to earlier sci-fi favorites like "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

In this episode, Adam Thomas, Aaron Zundel and Andy Farnsworth talk about how both humor and science fiction have traditionally been used to explore themes and ideas that may be too difficult to address directly.  We also discuss how this dynamic applies to "The Orville" and whether or not the type of humor used in the show accomplishes that goal.

"The Orville" stars Seth McFarlane as Capt. Ed Mercer; Adrianne Palicki as Cmdr. Kelly Grayson; Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn; Scott Grimes as Lt. Gordon Malloy; Peter Macon as Lt. Cmdr. Bortus; Halston Sage as Lt. Alara Kitan; J. Lee as Lt. John LaMarr; and Mark Jackson as Isaac.  It's Executive Produced by Jon Favreau, Seth McFarlane and Brannon Braga.

"Blade Runner 2049" is being hailed as one of the most visionary films to hit theaters in recent memory, both in terms of visuals and storytelling--yet some people still find the original "Blade Runner" to be too weird to enjoy.  So is "Blade Runner 2049," really worth seeing?

In this episode, Andy Farnsworth, Aaron Zundel, and (special guest host) Josh Tilton are here to discuss what it is that makes "Blade Runner 2049" so visionary, as well as a primer to understanding the movies and themes of the "Blade Runner" world, and, ultimately, the nature of artificial intelligence, life itself, and whether or not Replicants really can be "more human than human..."

"LEGO Ninjago" gives us THREE movies based on the decades-old toys that we loved to play with and that our parents cursed at us for leaving scattered across the floor.

In this episode of the podcast, Tysen Webb, Aaron Zundel and Andy Farnsworth are talking all about LEGOS: the movies, the video games, the ongoing toy empire.

What makes these little plastic blocks so fascinating?  Why do we love to play with them (and spend so much money on them)?  Even though the idea of toys being turned into a movie isn't that original, but the way the LEGO movies treat the toys *as toys in the movie* is certainly more unique.  What are your favorite LEGOS, and what would you like to see in the future?

Join us and maybe take a trip down your own memory lane along the way!

He also gives his insight into what experiences he hopes attendees at SLCC 2017 will have--whether they be newcomers, those who've never missed one, or anywhere in between--and the thing he would most like say to the the Salt Lake Comic Con community.

In this episode of the podcast, we review the highly-anticipated movie "It", based on the Stephen King novel and directed by Andy Muschietti.  It's not exactly the horror movie you might expect.

Andy, Tysen and Aaron also talk about how horror is unique as a genre in that it's one of the few where unhappy endings can be acceptable, as long as certain things happen during the movie, and try to figure out what makes us go out seeking that fear thrill?

They also discuss why Pennywise (played in this movie by Bill Skarsgard) might choose the clown as his "default" scary form and ask the question, What form would "It" take to scare you?

"It" stars Skarsgard, Jaeden Lieberher as Bill; Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben; Sophia Lillis as Beverly; Finn Wolfhard (from Stranger Things) as Richie; Chosen Jacobs as Mike; Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie; and Wyatt Oleff as Stanley.

Marvel's Cinematic Universe of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the other Avengers are an an unquestioned success on the big screen.  But Marvel's TV offerings have been... a mixed bag at best so far.  Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter haven't gotten the traction on broadcast TV the studio hoped for. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist have each had their own series on Netflix but no one other than the streaming giant knows the actual viewing numbers.  Now comes Marvel's The Defenders, an 8-episode series out on Netflix now that unites those four heroes.

In this episode of the podcast, Andy Farnsworth, Tysen Webb and Aaron Zundel review the series and it's cast (hint: pretty impressive), talk a bit about the history of The Defenders in the Marvel comics (hint: not very impressive) and what they think of this grittier portion of what is supposed to be the same world as Spider-Man, Cap and Tony Stark.

The heist movie. They've been around forever, often feature all-star casts and are usually tense, exciting and fun.  They're also the kind of movie that gets us to root guilt-free for the good guys to do a "bad" thing.

In this podcast, Andy, Aaron and Tysen talk about the new movie "Logan Lucky", a Coen Brothers-esque blue-collar heist movie directed by Steven Soderbergh ("Ocean's 11" trilogy) and featuring a surprisingly long list of stars like Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig, Seth McFarland, Katie Holmes, Katherine Watterston, Sebastian Stan and Hilary Swank.

We also explore why as viewers we seem to be OK with our good guys committing a crime; and we pick our favorite heist movies from the past few years.

**NOTE** The show "Rick and Morty" is part of Cartoon Network's [Adult Swim] and as such, many of the topics on the actual show (and by extension, some of the discussion on this particular podcast episode) may not be suitable for younger listeners.  Think PG-13.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 & 2 OF "RICK AND MORTY"

So, have you heard about this cartoon called "Rick and Morty"?  If you've listened to the podcast for awhile, you've certainly heard us refer to it before.  In this episode, Andy Farnsworth, Adam Thomas and Aaron Zundel go in-depth on what we think is one of the most brilliant shows on TV right now.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better combination of humor, deep-thinking moments, philosophical questions/debate, weirdness, sci-fi, improv, creativity and hidden meaning anywhere than in this show created by Dan Harmon ("Community").

So whether you're already a fan, or just curious to know what all the fuss is about, have a listen and prepare yourself to laugh and think.

Also, special thanks to Will Schoder for letting us use audio of his YouTube video "Rick and Morty - Finding Meaning in Life".  The video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ez1rWBPznEc&t=29s

"The Dark Tower" finally hits movie theaters after years of waiting by fans of the book series.  It's the latest big screen adaptation of the many, many writings to come from the mind of author Stephen King.

In this episode of the podcast, Andy Farnsworth, Aaron Zundel and Tysen Webb talk about the new movie starring Matthew McConaughey (as the Man in Black) and Idris Elba (as the Gunslinger), what they liked and disliked about it, whether it helps or hurts to have read the books before seeing the movie, and if we think we'll get more movies in the series.

They also discuss why fans feel so strongly about "The Dark Tower" series, how it ties into many of King's other works, why King's writings seem to be difficult to successfully adapt to film, and just how prolific the man is at churning out content (perhaps you'll be surprised by some of the films that were based on his works).

For this podcast, we found a "Star Wars" quiz on BuzzFeed which claimed that only a Jedi Master could get 12 out of 12. So we decided to take the challenge.

Andy Farnsworth, who often brags that he can win Star Wars Trivial Pursuit in one turn, asks the questions and Tysen Webb and Adam Thomas give it their all--no phones or computers allowed.

How will *you* do?  See if you can get them all correct, or if you can answer them faster than these three!  We would be honored...if you would JOIN us...

Christopher Nolan has directed some of the biggest movies of the past decade and a half, and is generally considered one of the best in Hollywood today.  DUNKIRK is his latest effort, an incredible visual and audio experience that tells a story from World War II that most Americans may not be familiar with.

In this podcast, Adam Thomas, Andy Farnsworth and Aaron Zundel review DUNKIRK and discuss whether or not it ranks among Nolan's best career work.  We also examine some of Nolan's earlier works, including the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar and The Prestige, while trying to decide which are his best and why.

DUNKIRK stars Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, Harry Styles, Fionn Whitehead, Barry Keoghan and Tom Glynn-Carney.  When Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire and France are surrounded by the German army on the beaches of Dunkirk, France, in World War II, they wonder how and when help will arrive.

Doctor Who fans got a jolt with the announcement of Jodie Whittaker (best known for Broadchurch and Attack the Block) as the 13th Doctor, replacing Peter Capaldi in the upcoming series on the BBC.

In this podcast, Adam Thomas, Tysen Webb, Aaron Zundel and Andy Farnsworth are joined by Whovian Tamara Webb (who also happens to be Tysen's wife) to talk about the casting, as well as some of the backlash by a segment of fans over the casting of a woman in the role for the first time...plus a little bit of background on Doctor Who for the uninitiated (like us).

Disney just wrapped up their fifth D23 Fan Expo in Anaheim, and we had someone there!  Honorary Fanboy and special correspondent Matthew Hansen joins Andy Farnsworth in studio for this podcast to recap and break down all the amazing stuff he saw over the three days of the Expo; including (and especially) descriptions of the Avengers Infinity War panel and trailer, and the Star Wars The Last Jedi panel and trailer.

Matthew got exclusive peeks at the live-action Lion King remake by Jon Favreau, Mary Poppins Returns with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Incredibles 2, Wreck-It-Ralph 2, Coco, and Olaf's Frozen Adventure.  Plus, updates on the live-action Dumbo (by Tim Burton!), Mulan, Aladdin and even more!

We think you'll get just as excited as Andy when you listen! So join us, won't you?

In this podcast, we're talking about "War for the Planet of the Apes", in which director Matt Reeves and stars Andy Serkis and a bunch of other CG monkeys are so incredible that you end up rooting against your own human species.

Andy Farnsworth, Tysen Webb and Aaron Zundel talk about what they liked about movie (hint: a LOT)--even though Tysen hadn't seen it yet (no spoilers outside what is in the trailers).  Andy hasn't seen the first two movies in the trilogy.  It leads to an interesting discussion to why the "Planet of the Apes" films keep getting made and what is it about the story that speaks to us.

--------------------------

In War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

The movie stars Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer & Terry Notary

Summer 2017 has seen three third movies in a trilogy released: Cars 3, Despicable Me 3 and War for the Planet of the Apes. So the whole crew is together to talk about the trilogy concept and what makes a good third movie in a trilogy or series.

Tysen Webb, Adam Thomas, Andy Farnsworth and Aaron Zundel also discuss some of their favorite third movies (there's one they all have in common), third movies that never got made but should have, and then categorize a bunch of them into great, decent and terrible categories, including:

Alien3, Back to the Future III, Batman Forever, Captain America Civil War, Cars 3, Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, Dark Knight Rises, Despicable Me 3, Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hobbit: Battle of 5 Armies, Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, Iron Man 3, LOTR: Return of the King, Matrix Revolutions, Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, Spider-Man 3, Star Trek III, Star Trek Beyond, Superman III, Toy Story 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Apocalypse, War For the Planet of the Apes.

Spider-Man is *finally* where he belongs: with the other heroes of the Marvel Universe. Thanks to a deal between Sony and Disney, the web-slinger gets the movie treatment he's always deserved in SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING

Tysen Webb, Andy Farnsworth and Aaron Zundel can do nothing but GUSH about Spidey's latest big-screen adventure, from the clever story, the awesome villain (The Vulture, played by Michael Keaton), the humor, the feeling, the heroism, to the (thankfully not overdone) appearances of Happy Hogan and Tony Stark/Iron Man--there's little not to like.

We also discuss how Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man ranks against Tobey Maguire's and Andrew Garfield's versions.  Are you a big fan of Spider-Man? One of these three guys doesn't even have him in his top-5 superheroes.  Can the 6th movie in the past 15 years about Spidey connect even with those who aren't his biggest fans?  Check out our podcast and then let us know what YOU think on the subject!

Spider-Man Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Robert Downey Jr, Jon Favreau, and Michael Keaton. It was directed by Jon Watts.

In this episode of the podcast we're talking about the return of Gru and his Minions in DESPICABLE ME 3 from Dreamworks and Illumination Studios.

Andy Farnsworth, Tysen Webb and Aaron Zundel are divided in their opinion of this movie (and Despicable Me 2 for that matter), but not along the lines you might expect.

It also leads to a very interesting discussion on childhood, magic, hope, myth, possibilities, adulthood, nostalgia and helps explain why three grown men are arguing about a movie aimed at kids!

Despicable Me 3 stars the voice talents of Steve Carell as Gru (and Dru), Kristen Wiig as Lucy, Miranda Cosgrove as Margo, Trey Parker (of South Park fame) as villain Balthazar Bratt, Steve Coogan and even a vocal cameo from Julie Andrews!

Lots of big news recently for Star Trek Discovery...the biggest of which is the premiere date! The show will debut on Sunday, September 24th on CBS television before moving exclusively to streaming on the CBS All-Access app for the remainder of the season.

Adam Thomas, Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth talk about all the new information: seeing our first images of Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca; more detail on Sonequa Martin-Green's character Michael Burnham; Plus, what is the "Roddenberry Rule" when it comes to Star Trek TV series, and should Discovery attempt to follow it?

If you're at all looking forward to this show, you MUST give us a listen and then let us know how *you* feel!

The studio decided not to screen TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT for critics, and after paying their own money to see it, Tysen Webb, Andy Farnsworth and Aaron Zundel can easily see why not.  (Adam Thomas wisely didn't spend any of his money or his time seeing it.)

In this podcast (which DOES contain spoilers), we review the film and talk about what exactly we think is going on with the multi-billion dollar movie-based-on-a-toy franchise.  There were some redeeming qualities we saw (Peter Cullen! Frank Welker!), but it wasn't enough to make up for it's many and massive problems.  You almost can't believe some of the things we saw and heard Sir Anthony Hopkins(!) do in this movie.  However, you CAN believe some of the things director Michael Bay did: disregarding plot elements he himself had established in earlier films; having key characters disappear for large chunks of the movie; having terrible dialogue.

We also talk about why even CARE what happens next with Optimus Prime, Megatron, and the Transformers franchise? The answer goes deeper for some of us than others.  Give us a listen and see what YOU think, then tell us in the comments!

Jun 16, 2017

(Podcast contains MILD spoilers--nothing that's not in the trailers)

Andy Farnsworth and award-winning writer and guest contributor Aaron Zundel are talking CARS 3 in this podcast.  The latest offering from Disney and Pixar is an attempt by the lucrative merchandising franchise to recover from the widely reviled Cars 2, generally considered the worst of the Pixar movies.

CARS 3 brings back Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, Sally, Luigi and the rest of the crew from Radiator Springs, plus it introduces us to newcomers Cruz Ramirez, Sterling and Lightning's young rival Jackson Storm.

But, does CARS 3 have a story worth telling?  Is it a good Pixar movie?  Is it a victim or beneficiary of being a sequel?  What makes a sequel worth watching?  Where do we think CARS 3 ranks among all the Pixar movies?  Listen to the podcast, then give us your opinions in the comments!

Universal Studios hopes to create a new crossover movie series involving their famous big screen monsters... and it launches with another reboot of THE MUMMY.

Andy Farnsworth is joined by award-winning writer Aaron Zundel for SPOILER-FREE talk about this new attempt to make an old monster scary and cool again (Tom Cruise).  Just kidding! Cruise is as buff and Ethan Hunt-y as ever!

It's actually Sofia Boutella (from Star Trek Beyond) who plays the title character in this outing--which has only a passing resemblance to the 1999 movie series headlined by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

So what exactly is this movie? Action-horror? Mild terror? Did the movie's trailers mislead as to who the film was supposed to appeal?  And why does the humor seem so out-of-place at times?  Is this Dark Universe a good idea?  Future outings will have Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's monster.

Hear our thoughts in the podcast, then add your own in the comments!

THE MUMMY (2017) is directed by Alex Kurtzman and also stars Russell Crowe, Anabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance.

"THE FIFTH ELEMENT", director Luc Besson's sci-fi adventure starring Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich, is 20 YEARS OLD!

The movie is one of Adam's cult favorites and Andy Farnsworth had never seen it, so when the show got a two-day re-release into theaters this month, they bought themselves some seats at the local cineplex to check it out in the way it was meant to be seen--on the big screen.  They're joined in this episode by Alex Kirry (of KSL's Nightside Project podcast) for whom The Fifth Element is also a cult favorite.

The first trailer for STAR TREK DISCOVERY is out and Adam Thomas, Tysen Webb, Andy Farnsworth and guest contributor (and award-winning writer) Aaron Zundel can't wait to talk about it.

We finally get our first glimpses of Sonequa Martin-Green as Lt. Michael Burnham, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Doug Martin as the alien Lt. Saru (who can apparently sense DEATH!) and even James Frain as Sarek.

We still have LOTS questions! Were those Klingons? What race is Saru? Is this set in the Kelvin timeline (Chris Pine movies) or the Prime timeline (Shatner)? Did we see enough to encourage new viewers to check it out...and did we see enough to make long-time Trek fans happy?

What do Superman, Spider-Man and Batman have to do with King Arthur? They're all examples of stories that have become legen--(wait for it)--dary!

That's what Andy Farnsworth and guest host (and award-winning writer) Aaron Zundel come to realize as they talk about the movie KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD starring Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law.  This interpretation of the Arthurian legend by director Guy Ritchie makes them ask: How "faithful" to the original story does a retelling need to be?

Is the Batman who kills in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE a travesty to the character?  Or, as Andy argues, is it an acceptable adaptation based on the world Zack Snyder created in the DCEU?

This episode, we re-live many of the big moments from SWCO, especially the panel for THE LAST JEDI, and hear some of the best lines, dissect the morsels of information we were given from Daisy Ridley, Rian Johnson, BB8 and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

The official Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser is FINALLY here! We've waited months ever since the official poster came out and now we get what we've been waiting for, or do we?

Adam Thomas, Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb all come together to go over what is shown, what is not shown and how the teaser left us feeling afterwards. Including, what does it mean the Jedi are set to end? How 'The Force Awakens' is a significant clue into 'The Last Jedi' and why is there red debris coming up from the Salt Flats?!

With a majority of the cast coming back from 'The Force Awakens', we can clearly see that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac) and Luke (Mark Hamill) are all going to join us on what is looking like one of the darkest Star Wars films yet.

Apr 14, 2017

Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb are joined once again by guest Fanboy host Aaron Zundel to give a SPOILER-FREE review of THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS, the latest entry into the multi-billion dollar Universal movie franchise.

What a film series! It's managed to successfully go from some street racing thieves jacking DVD players to an almost superhuman team of spies/secret agents/Impossible Mission Force over the course of 8 movies and 15+ years.

Andy is a latecomer to the Fast and Furious party, only having watched the previous 4 FF movies for the first time in the days leading up to Fast 8, but they hooked him hard.  Aaron liked F8 even more than Furious 7.

This time, why has Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) joined forces with the mysterious Cipher (Charlize Theron)?  How can his family/team of Letty Ortiz, Roman Pearce, Tej, Ramsey, Mr. Nobody and Luke Hobbs (Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell and Dwayne The Rock Johnson) possibly go up against, let alone STOP, their leader and friend?  Will they have to turn to their former enemy, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) for help?

WARNING: Podcast contains SPOILERS for Season 7 of THE WALKING DEAD

Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth are joined by KSL co-workers and guest Fangirls Sandy Collins and Sheryl Worsley to talk about Season 7 of THE WALKING DEAD--a frustrating one for them that struggled to keep their interest (and apparently other people's as well--based on the show's ratings).

Farewell Sasha (off to Star Trek!)  What was the most surprising moment of the season?  Why is Negan still alive? How should he meet his final end? Has Rick finally returned to his old self?  What is with the collective?  Will we get to see the war in Season 8?

Apr 7, 2017

The SLC Fanboys are talking today about the recent casting news for Star Trek Discovery: Namely that Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha from The Walking Dead) will play First Officer and lead character Michael Burnham on the U.S.S. Discovery; and that we'll get to see TOS character Harry Mudd played by none other than The Office's Rainn Wilson. Plus "30 Rock" sidekick Jonathan (Maulik Pancholy) will be the ship's doctor.

They also revisit Rogue One - A Star Wars Story now that the movie is available on disc and digital.  Do their positive impressions still hold up after time and multiple viewings?  Adam wants to know why doesn't Admiral Raddus have his own movie announced yet?  Plus, what if you found Darth Vader's body on the floor of the ILM Creature Shop?

WARNING: Mild spoilers for GitS to follow

Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb are joined by guest Fanboy Aaron Zundel to discuss Scarlett Johansson's latest: GHOST IN THE SHELL.  It's a live-action remake of a beloved Japanese anime comic and movie series from the 1990s.

Andy says you shouldn't worry about spoilers for this movie since those who are fans already know the story and everyone else might benefit from a little background going into the movie.

Aaron actually did a paper on "Ghost in the Shell" for a college class years ago and brings a perspective on the story that Tysen & Andy do not have.

The discussion eventually evolves into how we feel when a story we loved in another medium gets transferred to the big screen; and how it parallels some of the metaphysical questions explored in "Ghost in the Shell".

GHOST IN THE SHELL stars Scarlett Johansson as Major; Pilou Asbæk as Batou; Takeshi Kitano as Aramaki; Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet; Michael Pitt as Kuze; Peter Ferdinando as Cutter and Anamaria Marinca as Dr. Dahlin.  It is directed by Rupert Sanders and based on a story by Masamune Shirow

Mar 24, 2017

Andy Farnsworth is joined once again by guest Fangirl McKenzie Romero of the Deseret News, to talk about the FanX 2017 panel she moderated: ZACHARY LEVI!

Zachary Levi is famous for voicing Flynn Ryder in the Disney animated movie TANGLED (as well as the upcoming TANGLED animated series).  He also played the title character in the NBC TV series CHUCK, as well as appearing in THOR: THE DARK WORLD, SESAME STREET, HEROES REBORN, and NERDHQ, (among others), came to Salt Lake City for FanX 2017.

Mar 24, 2017

On today's (spoilers included) episode Andy Farnsworth is joined by two guest hosts, McKenzie Romero of the Deseret News and Millennial Josh to talk about the most millennial movie of the year, Power Rangers (2017).

It's getting rave reviews for capturing the essence of what Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was, including all of the cheesiness but we wanted to break down whether it could hold up against modern superhero movies being produced today and where it stands for those new to the franchise.

Also, we talk about Elizabeth Banks, who makes an amazing Rita Repulsa, how tv budgets in the 90's seriously hindered live-action fight scenes, and the issues modern cinema has getting over the "troubled teen" plot hurdles.

Mar 24, 2017

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL Today hosts Andrew Wittenburg and Lori Prichard on KSL-5 TV to talk the new movie POWER RANGERS--a big budget remake of a low-budget TV show in the 1990's.

Five teenagers discover ancient coins that give them superpowers so they can defend a crystal (that gives life to the entire planet Earth) from the evil alien Rita Repulsa (played by Elizabeth Banks).

Andy wasn't a big fan of the 90's TV show but actually liked a lot of what the new movie has to offer.  The humor and nods to the original were appreciated, but what he liked best was that the movie was relatively interesting even though filmmakers didn't rush to have them morph or use their Zords.

POWER RANGERS stars Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Bill Hader as Alpha 5. It's distributed by Lionsgate Films

Andy Farnsworth concludes our Salt Lake City, Comic Con 'FanX' voice actor tribute with voice actress Jennifer Hale who has voiced many famous characters such Aayla Secura in Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series; Commander Shephard in Mass Effect 3; Bastila Shan in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic; and Cinderella - Cinderella II: Dreams Come True and what it means to play Jean Grey in multiple X-Men animated series.

Mar 21, 2017

Andy Farnsworth catches up with prolific voice actor Jeff Bennett at FanX 2017 in Salt Lake City.  Bennett might be most famous for voicing Kowalski in the Penguins of Madagascar animated series and Johnny Bravo, the latter even getting him noticed by one of the most famous voice actors of all time--Robin Williams!  Bennett has also voiced characters on Dexter's Lab, Batman villain the Joker, dozens of video games and other animated series and has amazing comedic timing. We also talk about what it was like practicing his skills growing up and what it takes to handle the hundreds of roles that he has had over the years.

Mar 20, 2017

We reach out to actress Adrienne Wilkinson during Salt Lake Comic Con's FanX 2017 to talk about the countless and groundbreaking roles that she has taken over the past 15 years as well as how she prepares for her diverse roles such as: Eve in Xena: Warrior Princess, both voice and motion capture as Maris Brood in the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and Lexxa Singh in Star Trek: Renegades; plus over 30 other roles in the video game industry.

Mar 18, 2017

With a name like Logan Stark, it's probably no surprise we bumped into the director of content for Black Rifle Coffee Company at Salt Lake Comic Con's FanX 17. Logan explained how he got involved in projects to help ensure members of the military are portrayed in a better light on film -- from his time as a Marine in Afghanistan, to the movie footage he brought back and turned into YouTube shorts, to his involvement now in a veteran-owned and operated business.

Mar 18, 2017

We got a chance to hang out with Jarred Taylor, president of Article 15 Clothing and VP of Black Rifle Coffee Company, to chat with him about what it was like to play himself in Range 15. The movie was a crowd-funded experiment in helping make sure the military and veterans are portrayed better on the big screen. To date, it's still one of the most successful films ever to be funded through a site like IndieGoGo. And Jarred says while zombies aren't in the cards for him next, he's still got big plans for vets in media.

(VIDEO) SLC Fanboys' Andy Farnsworth joins Andrew Wittenburg and Shara Park on KSL-5 TV in Salt Lake City to talk about Disney's live-action remake of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

Some of what he liked: Cast, visuals, feeling. He warns that the singing in the new movie is good... but not quite up to par with the original 1991 animated movie.  Also, there's Obi-Wan Ken-andlestick and Clock-neto. So, you know, it's got that going for it.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Belle's father, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts and even Stanley Tucci's in there too somewhere.

Mar 17, 2017

This episode Andy & Adam are talking the INDIANA JONES movie series with Alex Kirry and Ethan Millard of KSL's Nightside Project podcast.  This epic crossover event came about because of a tweet following an argument during Nightside's podcast where Alex pretended CRYSTAL SKULL doesn't exist, while Ethan defended some of the 2006 movie's concepts and proclaimed TEMPLE OF DOOM to be his favorite of the series.

They also talk about their favorite moments from the movies, listen to some of John Williams' legendary musical score, argue for the merits of LAST CRUSADE and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, discuss what they'd like too see in the newly-confirmed FIFTH movie in the franchise (coming 2019) and why the series from George Lucas and Steven Spielberg remains so beloved and why it's still so watchable after all this time.

Mar 10, 2017

Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth review the new movie Kong: Skull Island and they are not quite sure what to make of it.  It brings the giant ape and Godzilla into the same movie universe (stay thru the credits--we didn't).

Too many times while I was watching it, I thought I was watching a made-for-SyFy-Channel movie that managed to pull an A-list cast (including Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, John C. Reilly and Brie Larson). It helps that the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and yet other than Jackson & Reilly, nobody else is given much to do.

The visuals were great (#Kong looked impressive) and the ONLY reason you should see this in the theater is because the size & scope are made for the big screen. If not for that and the laughs the movie generates (some unintentional), this is one you should wait for the dollar theaters or watch on cable.

#KongSkullIsland is not for the little kids. There are very scary visuals, much death and lots to give them nightmares. If you're a teen or adult, it's got moments reminiscent of (better) movies Predator, Pacific Rim, Apocalypse Now, & Jurassic World.

SLC Fanboys interview alum Jason Isaacs is the new captain of the USS Discovery in the upcoming series "Star Trek Discovery" (we talked with him at Sundance--listen here: http://bit.ly/2mmYASG)

Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth talk about the big news, review the rest of the cast list & talk about why we're getting more optimistic about the series as each new cast member is announced.

Star Trek Discovery will star Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Sonequa Martin-Green as Lt. Cmdr Rainsford, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou and James Frain as Sarek.

SLC Fanboys correspondent Matthew Hansen reports in LIVE from the Disney annual shareholders meeting in Denver, where he got to see some of the first ACTUAL footage from Star Wars The Last Jedi.

Get the goosebumps and let your imagination run wild as he describes a series of images including Luke Skywalker, Finn, BB-8, Rey, Leia, Chewbacca, Captain Phasma, and Poe Dameron.

Don't worry, no spoilers contained herein.

He also saw and gives brief descriptions of clips from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Frozen 2, Beauty and the Beast, and Coco, among others.

**AUDIO ONLY**
SLC Fanboys Andy and Adam sit down to talk with director Cameron Sawyer and producer Travis Morgan about "Tim Timmerman: Hope of America", a new family friendly comedy filmed in Utah and set in the mid-90's that has won several awards at film festivals around the USA and is set to open to the public on March 3rd.

Among the things you’ll see in the movie: Bill Clinton on a bicycle, a legendary Goth assassin, a beautiful (but creepy) student council advisor, CDs that skip when you listen in the car and phones with cords attaching them to the wall!

“Tim Timmerman: Hope of America” stars Eddie Perino, Chelsea Maidhof, Laird Macintosh, Stephanie Drapeau, Henry Monfries and Anthony DeSimone;  and it features classic songs from the 1990’s by the Scorpions, Pearl Jam and Mazzy Star.

(VIDEO) The SLC Fanboys sit down with some of the team behind the very funny new film “Tim Timmerman, Hope of America”-- the story of a charismatic (but kinda lazy) high school student body president in Utah the mid-1990’s.  It’s based loosely on co-writer and director Cameron Sawyer’s own experiences as Orem High’s SBP back in 1995.

As Andy Farnsworth sees it, TT:HOA has elements of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” & “Better Off Dead”, and is humorous throwback to an era that is now 20+ years in the past, but feels like it was yesterday.

“Tim Timmerman: Hope of America” stars Eddie Perino, Chelsea Maidhof, Laird Macintosh, Stephanie Drapeau, Henry Monfries and Anthony DeSimone;  and it features classic songs from the 1990’s by the Scorpions, Pearl Jam and even Mazzy Star.

CAUTION: Contains mild spoilers for S1 & S2 of VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER

Andy Farnsworth talks about the Netflix revival of the 1980's classic cartoon "Voltron" with Tysen Webb & Adam Thomas.

The new Voltron has more similarities to the old series than differences, but one of the biggest upgrades has been ditching the monster-of-the-week format for more extended storytelling.  It feels like a Voltron written with a grown-up in mind, but done in a way that kids can still enjoy it.

Andy has a lot of questions at the end of the 24 episodes so far.  And find out which Saturday Night Live sketch from the 2000's kept popping up in his head every time he heard Princess Allura speak.

Dreamworks and Netflix's VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER features the voices of Josh Keaton as Shiro, Tyler Labine as Hunk, Jeremy Shada as Lance, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Pidge, Steven Yeun as Keith, and Kimberly Brooks as Princess Allura.

The series was written by Tim Hedrick (Avatar: The Last Airbender); produced by Joaquim dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery (Avatar: The Last Airbender; Legend of Korra); and animated by Studio Mir

An argument ONE YEAR in the making!  It's Fanboy vs Fanboy as Adam Thomas attacks, saying Captain America: Civil War absolutely does NOT deserve such a high Rotten Tomatoes score.  Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth defend the Marvel film and say anyone who waits a year to see the movie and then trashes it can't be taken seriously.

So whose side are YOU on? Team Wrong (Adam Thomas) or Team Right (Andy & Tysen)? Has time tempered your initial enthusiasm for one of the highest grossing films of 2016?  Or do you still love it as much as you did?

Feb 17, 2017

The big rumor is that Ben Affleck might not want to play Batman anymore in the DC Comics movie universe.  Is it true?  Also, why does there constantly seem to be turmoil surrounding the DC characters and the Warner Bros movies?

Also, Oscar-nominated director Mel Gibson is supposedly in talks to direct Suicide Squad 2.  What might a superhero movie look like with Gibson at the helm?

We also talk about Aquaman and why he can't seem to be taken seriously.  Maybe it's because of his orange-and-green ensemble from the 1970s, maybe it's because of Family Guy's constant mocking.  Plus, Jason Momoa--who'll play the king of the seas in the Justice League movie--is coming to Salt Lake FanX in March!

Feb 10, 2017

SLC Fanboys' Andy Farnsworth joins Lori Prichard and Andrew Wittenberg on KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah, to talk about The Lego Batman Movie starring the voices of Will Arnett, Zach Galifinakis, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, and Ralph Fiennes.

A few things Andy can't figure out:

1) How does Will Arnett not have permanent laryngitis?

2) Were there ANY Warner Bros properties that DIDN'T make an appearance in the movie?

3) Why can't the live-action Batman/Superman movies seem to capture this mix of fun, fight and feelings?

Feb 10, 2017

Dan Farr, co-founder (with Bryan Brandenburg) of Salt Lake Comic Con joins Tysen Webb & Andy Farnsworth to talk about 2017 Salt Lake Fan X and the meteoric rise of the Comic Con scene in Utah.

Salt Lake Fan X comes to the Salt Palace Convention Center on March 17-18, bringing a bunch of high-profile guests, including: Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, Dule Hill and James Roday from PSYCH, funnyman singer Weird Al Yankovic, HARRY POTTER'S Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Cary Elwes and several other cast members from THE PRINCESS BRIDE

Feb 10, 2017

The jokes in THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE begin even before pictures appear on the screen, and they don't stop until the final credits.  SLC Fanboys' Andy Farnsworth reviews the sort-of sequel to 2015's LEGO MOVIE, and wonders why the live-action DC Universe can't seem to find this winning mix of humor, heart and action that a 2-hour toy commercial manages to do.

Will Arnett (Arrested Development) returns as Batman, a loner superhero living with his butler Alfred (voiced by Ralph Fiennes).  Batman (accidentally) adopts Dick Grayson/Robin (voiced by Michael Cera), tries to to figure out how to work with Commissioner Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson) while battling the Joker (Zach Galifinakis), who just wants Batman to admit who is his greatest villain.

In between all this, there are cameos from just about every Warner Bros property, other guest voices galore, and the amazing use of Legos in every form imaginable.

Andy Farnsworth sits down in Park City, Utah, with our Sundance Film Fest sponsors Robert Beatty and KT Hart of Zumm--Everything for Android.

Robert is partnering with Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee on a new project (Legion of Five), & KT has a show in the works where she travels the world and meets a variety of interesting animals.

KT also reminisces about her days doing suplexes as Olympia and Corporal Kelly in GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) for the WWF and WWE as well as her many famous relatives--including European royalty, famous wrestler Brett "the Hitman" Hart and a certain 4-time Super Bowl champion quarterback.

We also about talk Zumm Box, a new set top digital streaming device with even more features and interactive possibilities than Roku--including a special deal for KSL and SLC Fanboys listeners.

Now that we know Star Wars Episode VIII is called "The Last Jedi", it's time for the SLC Fanboys to discuss what it could mean.

Some (and by that we mean: Andy Farnsworth) are dreading the thought of an on-screen demise for their childhood hero, especially since Han Solo's death means NONE of the original characters are safe.

Then Andy, Tysen Webb & Adam Thomas talk about the latest news of more delays for "Star Trek Discovery"--pushed back from May to an indefinite launch date.  Adam likes that CBS isn't insisting on a specific date so perhaps this Star Trek show can avoid some of the first season problems that others like Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise went through.

Feb 3, 2017

With the recent news that Episode VIII will be titled, 'The Last Jedi', we have all gotten together to not only describe the hype surrounding the update but what it REALLY means.

Is it too soon to have a "last jedi"? What would we do if Luke Skywalker is actually the last jedi? Where in the world are they taking the Star Wars franchise and most importantly, why won't Daisy Ridley give us any spoilers?!

Feb 3, 2017

(Warning: Spoilers in this podcast for "The Space Between Us")

Andy Farnsworth reviews THE SPACE BETWEEN US starring Asa Butterfield (ENDER'S GAME), Britt Robertson (TOMORROWLAND, MOTHER'S DAY), Gary Oldman (DARK KNIGHT, HARRY POTTER) and Carla Gugino (SPY KIDS, WAYWARD PINES).

What if you were the only human NEVER to have set foot on planet Earth?  What's your favorite thing ABOUT Earth?  Those are some of the intriguing questions asked in this new teenage romance disguised as a sci-fi movie.

Butterfield plays Gardner Elliott, born secretly on Mars to an astronaut mother who died during childbirth.  16 years later he's going to Earth, in large part to meet a girl named Tulsa (Robertson)--someone with whom he's been FaceTiming from Mars, without telling her where he actually is.

Andy says teens will like this movie best, and so will older viewers who check their cynicism at the door--even if you can predict a lot of what is going to happen.

Christina Robinson charms SLC Fanboys Andy Farnsworth & Adam Thomas at Sundance Film Festival 2017 in Park City, Utah, as she talks about her new film "Emma's Chance", about a horse rescue ranch in which she played lead horse trainer Lexie Smith.

Christina also stars in the upcoming "Anders Manor" as a mental patient who goes home to a terrifying manor in Rhode Island and talks about how she is able to cry on command.  She also talks about her best-known role (so far): Astor Bennett on the Showtime series "Dexter", how her twin sister felt about her casting, and how old she was when she finally watched the show.

Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery, The OA, The Patriot, Harry Potter, Peter Pan), just announced as the new captain of Star Trek: Discovery, and Levi Miller (Pan) join the SLC Fanboys at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.  They're starring in the new Australian film "Red Dog: True Blue", which is part of Sundance's new Kids & Family category.

Jason & Levi talk about making a follow up movie to the Australian classic "Red Dog"; acting with different accents and which is harder, British, American or Australian; why Jason doesn't play "villains" (like Hap from The OA); which former Sundance film (and Utah favorite) is also one of Levi's favorites; and which sport Jason can't watch sitting down.

Jan 30, 2017

SLC Fanboys Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb are at the 2017 Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, talking about the movie "Dave Made A Maze" with the indie film's director/co-writer Bill Watterson, and stars Nick Thune, Meera Rohit Kumbhani, and Adam Busch.

"Dave Made a Maze" is about Dave (Thune), an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation. Ignoring his warnings, Dave's girlfriend Annie (Khumbani) leads a band of oddball explorers (Busch, James Urbaniak) on a rescue mission. Once inside, they find themselves caught in an ever-changing supernatural world, threatened by booby traps and pursued by a bloodthirsty Minotaur.

Bill Watterson’s feature debut re-imagines classic 80s adventure films with a modern comedic edge and a higher body count. The handmade fantasy world comes to life with puppetry, stop-motion animation, and in-camera optical illusions. More than 30,000 square feet of donated/scrap cardboard was used in the creation of more than 20 unique sets.

Jan 30, 2017

SLC Fanboys Tysen Webb & Andy Farnsworth are joined in Park City, Utah, by the highly entertaining Jamie Greenberg, writer and director of the indie film FUTURE '38--making its debut at the Slamdance Film Festival.

Mr. Greenberg's film is described as a screwball time-travel comedy "made" in 1938 (even shot in black & white) but set in the far-future year of 2018 (glorious Technicolor)--and is the Slamdance film Andy is most excited to see.  It's probably the only film at the festival (and certainly the only comedy) to feature a Neil Degrasse Tyson appearance!

FUTURE '38 pays homage to a multitude of films from the past--including THE WIZARD OF OZ--and humorously answers the very-meta question: How do WE think the people from 1938 might have pictured our modern day?  You'll definitely recognize Sean Young (BLADE RUNNER, STRIPES, ACE VENTURA) and Ethan Phillips (STAR TREK VOYAGER) among the cast, which also includes Nick Westrate, Ilana Becker, Robert John Burke and Betty Gilpin.

Future ’38: Can A Time Traveler From 1938 Save The World?

Jan 27, 2017

Not every actor at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, is from Hollywood or there promoting a film, or even there to star-gaze.  Some are just there to make some contacts or hopefully get a project going.

Local Utah actor/director/producer Mark Webb (THE LAST DESCENT, WAYWARD: THE PRODIGAL SON, SAINT STREET) joins SLC Fanboys Andy Farnsworth & Adam Thomas to talk about another side of the famous film festival and give us some insight into what many (most?) actors face when they're trying to make it.

Jan 26, 2017

SLC Fanboys Andy & Tysen are in Park City at the Slamdance Film Festival, joined this time by the writer, director and stars of the new independent film KATE CAN'T SWIM, who all just happen to be two people: Josh Helman and Jennifer Allcott.

You can sense the chemistry between the two as you listen to them talk about the new movie, Josh's directorial debut, all the different "hats" (besides writer & actor) that Jennifer wore during production, and even the goofy TV show that makes Helman geek out.

The movie is the story of KATE (Celeste Arias), who is almost thirty, almost engaged, almost settled in her career as a writer--but is deeply dissatisfied. When Kate's best friend EM (Allcott) returns from Paris with a surprising new lover in tow NICK (Helman), Kate and her boyfriend PETE (Grayson DeJesus) spend a weekend in upstate New York with the new couple. As Kate struggles with her suspicions about Em's new lover, dormant feelings about her own life arise, forcing her to decide whether to stay on her current life path or to burn it down and forge a new one.

Helman has appeared in TV series such as WAYWARD PINES and THE PACIFIC, as well as films JACK REACHER, and MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. He is also well-known for playing Col. William Stryker in "X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST" and "X-MEN APOCALYPSE".

Horror is on the docket as the director & two of the stars of the indie film "Killing Ground" join SLC Fanboys Adam Thomas and Tysen Webb at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Australian director Damien Power has been getting great reviews for his nonlinear horror movie "Killing Ground" that may just scare you away from camping forever.  Stars Maya Stange (Wolf CreekXX/XY, Garage Days) and Aaron Glenane (Deadline Gallipoli, Home And Away) talk about how dark, brutal and terrifying the film gets before Maya and Adam Thomas eventually bond over their shared love of "Rick & Morty".

Future '38 was produced by Joanna Bowzer, Daryl Goldberg, and Jonathan Gray.

Jason Isaacs (The OA, The Patriot, Harry Potter, Peter Pan), just announced as the new captain of Star Trek: Discovery, and Levi Miller (Pan) join the SLC Fanboys at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Jan 22, 2017

Jan 22, 2017

Renee Willett joins the SLC Fanboys at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.  During the interview we discuss her acting (Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!), stand-up comedy and film production projects as well as her multiple degrees including finance. Renee is starring in the "The Yellow Birds" at Sundance with Alden Ehrenreich, Tye Sheridan, Jack Huston and Jennifer Aniston.

She's also appearing in the upcoming film "The Comedian" with Robert De Niro and Leslie Mann.

The SLC Fanboys look at the movies scheduled for 2017 to which they are most looking forward.

There's no question they all can't wait to see Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, but fanboys of a whole bunch of franchises will have something to see this year--including:

Pirates of the Caribbean, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Alien, Fast & Furious, Thor, and DC Comics "Justice League" get entries into their respective franchises.

Movie remakes of old TV shows include Baywatch and CHiPs, Power Rangers & My Little Pony.

There's also entries from Disney, Dreamworks & let's not forget...an untitled Warner Bros comedy!

So, which one do you want to see most?

Jan 14, 2017

Tysen Webb, Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth discuss two very important questions for Star Wars going forward: What to do with Princess Leia in the current movie timeline, and HOW should this iconic character meet her demise in the SW universe?

The recent death of actress Carrie Fisher means Disney and Lucasfilm must decide how Leia Organa will fit into Episode IX, if at all.  Should she be written out?  How should her story arc end?  (UPDATE: Filmmakers have announced she will NOT be recreated digitally for Ep IX)

Then a very important question: How should one of the most iconic female characters in cinematic and pop culture history "become one with the Force?"  Where should it take place? In the movies? On screen? Off-screen?  In a book? A comic book?

How this sensitive yet critical question is handled by those charged with caretaking the galaxy far, far away could well determine how this new trilogy will be received by fans old and new alike...

Jan 6, 2017

Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb talk Star Wars Rebels at the halfway point of season 3.  We've seen the return of Maul, met the Bendu & Wedge Antilles, seen Ezra end the Clone Wars and Sabine take possession of the darksaber.

They also break down the exciting new trailer for the second half of the season--including the re-introduction of Saw Gerrera and likely concluding with a rematch between a certain tattooed Zabrak and a "crazy old wizard".

What male Star Wars fan *didn't* have a crush on Princess Leia at some point in their life?  SLC Fanboys Adam Thomas and Tysen Webb were no exception, and they say goodbye to Carrie Fisher, the woman who brought Leia Organa (nee Skywalker) to life and whose face will always be associated with that iconic character in pop culture history.

Fisher never recovered from an apparent heart attack suffered on a flight from London to Los Angeles right after Christmas 2016.  She spent most of her adult life battling addiction and dealing with mental illness and never shied away from either topic.

We'll miss you, Carrie.  Rest in peace.

It has existed for nearly 40 years, but "The Star Wars Holiday Special" has been little more than myth or legend for most fans of the galaxy far, far away.  It brought together all the original stars of A New Hope, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader, Bea Arthur as the cantina barmaid & Art Carney as the convenience store clerk & in-home deliveryman.  Wait--those last two weren't in Star Wars...were they?

The show aired on network TV one time ONLY back on November 15, 1978. Since that day, all involved have pretended it doesn't exist.

The SLC Fanboys found it on YouTube, watched it, and are now here to give you their thoughts, just in time for the 2016 holidays! You'll think we're making it up. Sadly, we are not.

Let's just say there's a reason Disney & Lucasfilm are always trying to make the video disappear.

Dec 22, 2016

It's not doing well on Rotten Tomatoes, but Andy Farnsworth actually kind of enjoyed the new movie "Passengers" starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence.

Andy did feel the trailers were a little misleading on a key plot point (hence the mild spoiler warning) but since the info is revealed pretty quickly in the movie he doesn't feel like it will ruin your experience--and maybe you'll feel less irritated than he did.

This movie mashes up a million things you've seen before (Castaway, 2001, Interstellar, The Last Man on Earth, Titanic, Sleeping Beauty...) but all that is just an excuse to get two of the more likeable stars in Hollywood (@PrattPrattPratt & J-Law) together in the same movie.

Passengers is directed by Morten Tyldum.

WARNING: Contains spoilers for Rogue One - A Star Wars Story!

The SLC Fanboys are positively GUSHING about Rogue One.

Adam Thomas liked the callbacks to the original Star Wars trilogy and was impressed with some of the CG tricks.

Tysen Webb (of course) loved how Darth Vader was portrayed.

Andy Farnsworth loved that it was a Star Wars movie made for long-time fans of the Original Trilogy.

They talk Easter eggs, nods to Star Wars Rebels, agree how great K2S0 is and pick around for any links to The Force Awakens.

Hopefully you aren't friends with Jyn Erso, because then you might survive to actually hear or watch this podcast!

Rogue One - A Star Wars Story features Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe & Alan Tudyk as K2S0. It is directed by Gareth Edwards.

Exactly how much do you want to know before you watch a movie or TV show... especially a blockbuster like Rogue One - A Star Wars Story?

All 3 SLC Fanboys are back together! Tysen Webb, Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth are joined by fangirl Beth Brewer to discuss/argue if the only thing spoilers can do is ruin a person's experience. Are there any times when "know before you go" can actually enhance the experience?

Don't worry, NO SPOILERS contained herein for Rogue One.  Some older movies get spoiled, like The Matrix, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Sixth Sense, The Force Awakens and Empire Strikes Back. But honestly, if you haven't seen any of those by now, then it's your own fault!

Dec 14, 2016

Since Tysen Webb and Adam Thomas haven't seen Rogue One yet and don't want to be spoiled, Andy Farnsworth is piloting the X-wing solo (from the appropriately named Death Star studio at KSL Broadcast House) for this review and preview of the biggest movie of the holiday season.

You won't hear any true spoilers here -- Andy talks generally about the plot, characters and galaxy without ruining the movie for you. Plus he tries to give you some guidelines to help you enjoy the movie to its fullest, right from the beginning.

And don't worry, once all three SLC Fanboys have seen the film, you'll get the full podcast treatment from your favorite geeks.

Dec 8, 2016

The first season of HBO's Westworld is now in the books.  SLC Fanboys Adam Thomas & Andy Farnsworth talk about the consequences and fallout from that final episode and where director Jonathan Nolan could go with season 2.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW

Why did Maeve (Thandie Newton) get off the train?  What will happen to the park guests? Will we see Anthony Hopkins return as Dr. Robert Ford in some capacity?  What will Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Teddy (James Marsden) do now?  Is the Man in Black (Ed Harris) dead?  What happened to Elsie (Shannon Woodward) and Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth)?  And what's next for Bernard (Jeffrey Wright)?

Dec 3, 2016

Adam Thomas & Andy Farnsworth look back at the best of the Star Trek: The Next Generation film franchise--"Star Trek: First Contact"--20 years after it hit theaters around Thanksgiving 1996.

Both agree it's one of the best Trek films of all 13 that have come out so far, they liked the cast, the story, the music, the choice of villain...pretty much everything about it.

Plus, they talk about the actor that was once considered for the role of Borg Queen and imagine how THAT film might have played out.

Star Trek: First Contact was directed by Jonathan Frakes, written by Ronald D. Moore, and starred Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Frakes as Commander Riker, Brent Spiner as Data, Michael Dorn as Worf, Alfre Woodard as Lily, James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane, and Alice Krige as the Borg Queen.

Dec 1, 2016

Andy Farnsworth & Tysen Webb turn the hype machine to 11 as they try and get through the agonizing final weeks before the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Nothing will be spoiled beyond what is already in the official Lucasfilm/Disney trailers & TV spots, so listen away!

Tysen has been waiting 30+ years to see his favorite character Darth Vader properly represented on the big screen (Revenge of the Sith doesn't count!) but hopes he's not used too much.

Andy hopes the studio's "interference" produces something great through struggle, rather than mess it up.

Rogue One - A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Madds Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, and Ben Mendelsohn as Director Orson Krennic. It also stars Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Saw Gerrera, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen and Jimmy Smits.

Nov 25, 2016

SLC Fanboy Tysen Webb returns (finally!) and is joined by Fangirl Sheryl Worsley to discuss "The Walking Dead".  Has the show lost its way?

CURRENT SEASON spoilers contained herein. Be warned!

Nov 24, 2016

Andy Farnsworth is joined once again by Fangirl Taylor Powers for a deep dive into "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

If you are concerned about spoilers, DO NOT LISTEN UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN THE MOVIE!

In Part 2, Andy & Taylor continue their discussion, exploring a little more the relationship between the main characters Tina, Newt, Queenie & Jacob...wonder when this portion of history takes place--before or AFTER the death of Dumbledore's sister Ariana...and possibly figure out an incredible connection between Credence and a major character from the Harry Potter series.

Nov 23, 2016

Andy Farnsworth is joined once again by Fangirl Taylor Powers for a deep dive into "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

If you are concerned about spoilers, DO NOT LISTEN UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN THE MOVIE!

In Part 1, Andy & Taylor recap plot points, talk a little off-screen history of some of the characters and discover that Andy has never been sorted into a Hogwarts house, unlike Taylor (Hufflepuff)--who also realized too late she would have been the perfect age and physical description to play one of the characters in the original "Harry Potter" movie series.

Nov 17, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", the newest entry into the Harry Potter movie franchise from Warner Bros.  Don't worry, NO SPOILERS contained herein but you WILL get to hear from the Maker herself, J.K. Rowling.

Adam Thomas really liked the movie, despite never having read the Harry Potter books (or even seen ONE of the HP movies before!).  Andy Farnsworth has all the insider nods that fans will catch, the story & the visuals. He also LOVES that HP fans will know what it was like for him when he saw the first Harry Potter movie.

"Fantastic Beasts" stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston as Porpentina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Ezra Miller as Credence and Colin Farrell as Percival Graves.  The movie was written and produced by J.K. Rowling.

Nov 11, 2016

What if... Kylo Ren had been played by Eddie Redmayne instead of Adam Driver?

SLC Fanboys Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth discuss the revelation that the Oscar-winning Redmayne auditioned for the part of Ren from Star Wars The Force Awakens and imagine how that might have turned out.

They also talk about the possibility (however remote) that the X-Men could join the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe & how Doctor Strange fits into this.

Finally, would you like to see a live-action Voltron movie? There's a chance you might get to in the near future.

WARNING: LISTEN AFTER SEEING DOCTOR STRANGE IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN SPOILER-FREE

SLC Fanboy Andy Farnsworth is joined by Fangirls Taylor Powers from KSL and McKenzie Romero of the Deseret News to dive deep into the mystic waters of Marvel's "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams.

In Part 2  we discuss some of what we disliked (some nitpicking by the girls), give the movie our FINAL rating, and say whether or not we'd own this movie when it's available.  (There's also some Chris Pratt fangirling thrown in)

In Part 1 we discuss what we liked, some of the characters and what we learned about them, and "tutting", a hand-based form of dance that the director used to choreograph how the actors depicted the magic in the movie.

Nov 3, 2016

NOTE: *Minor* spoilers in the video, but nothing that's not in the trailers

SLC Fanboys Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth are joined by Fangirl Taylor Powers with their reactions immediately after seeing Marvel's "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton.

Everyone agreed this was pretty amazing visually and the 3D & IMAX are worth the extra cost.  It looks like Marvel/Disney could have another hit on their hands.

Oh, and make sure you stay through all the credits!

Nov 2, 2016

Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth talk the latest rumors about Star Wars Episode VIII (what is Luke Skywalker wearing?!?!) and positive early rumblings about the Han Solo movie due in 2018.

Adam also unearthed some positive rumors about the plot of Star Trek Discovery and the possibility of a Klingon ship's crew as a regular part of the cast.

Another director has jumped ship from a superhero movie...this time it's Rick Famuyiwa leaving DCEU "The Flash" movie starring Ezra Miller prior to principal photography.

And finally, James Cameron changed how we view 3D movies with 2009's "Avatar", what is he trying to do for "Avatar 2"?

Oct 28, 2016

Andy Farnsworth reviews "Inferno", the new movie based on the book by Dan Brown, starring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon and directed by Ron Howard.

Andy & Adam Thomas also talk about other book-to-movie adaptations they liked and disliked--including "The Witches", "Gods and Generals", "Ender's Game", "Jurassic Park" and, of course, "Harry Potter".  Andy argues that whatever you do first (book or movie), you're more inclined to like better.

Oct 28, 2016

Big news for those like Adam Thomas who are eagerly anticipating CBS/Paramount's Star Trek Discovery--producer and writer Bryan Fuller is no longer heavily involved in the "troubled" production.

Adam has long argued his doubts the show will premiere in May 2017, especially considering production is supposed to begin in November and they still haven't cast the lead.  So he and Andy Farnsworth have decided to help the producers out by making some decisions for them.

Deadpool 2 is also searching for a new director now that Tim Miller has quit the project.  But don't worry, all you Deadpool fanboys, Ryan Reynolds is still on board and you can bet there will be *at least* one joke in the new movie to poke fun at Miller's exit.

Oct 20, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk about NBC's new fall show "Timeless" starring Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer & Malcom Barrett.  It's the latest of many shows and movies to use time travel as a storytelling device or plot point.  Andy Farnsworth has enjoyed the first couple of episodes but wonders how often you can play with the timeline before you just have to reset everything.

Andy, Adam Thomas and Tysen Webb also talk about some of the different time travel shows/movies (like "Back to the Future", "Doctor Who" & "Quantum Leap")--including some less-than-spectacular efforts (ahem--"Star Trek Generations", "Hot Tub Time Machine 2")... and a forgotten Disney movie from the 80's that Andy & Adam say actually gets future time travel correct!

Oct 20, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk their favorite episodes of "The Simpsons" as the long-running animated show (27 years!) recently reached the 600-episode mark.

Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth found it hard to trim down to just a few personal faves, but Adam loved both episodes with a certain "logical" guest star... while Andy's favorites involved absurdity and satire.

"The Simpsons" was created by Matt Groening, James L. Brooks & Sam Simon. It stars Dan Castellaneta as Homer, Julie Kavner as Marge, Yeardley Smith as Lisa, and Nancy Cartwright as Bart.

Oct 14, 2016

With Halloween not far away, the SLC Fanboys sit down with Travis & Jimmy...a couple of people behind one Utah's premiere haunted houses--Nightmare on 13th.

Haunted houses are one of SLC Fanboy Tysen Webb's personal faves (remember, this guy had posters of Freddy & Jason in his bedroom growing up!), while Andy Farnsworth would just as soon walk on the other side of the street (thank you very much!)

Nightmare on 13th is famous for its attention to detail (especially in makeup) and the extensive training its actors go through, as well as the impressive animatronics and the overall experience they give patrons.

Oct 13, 2016

Disney has released the final full-length trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." The SLC Fanboys are impressed, to say the least. It's still tough to determine many plot details for sure, but there's new dialogue from Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), and Director Krennic (Ben Mendolsohn), with an additional appearance from Darth Vader, among others.

The final trailer also features different music, so they're not sure if it's from Michael Giacchino's new score. The SLC Fanboys talk about the release date of December 16, and Andy Farnsworth even gets in a quick defense of the prequel trilogy, bless his heart.

Oct 13, 2016

SLC Fanboys Tysen Webb & Andy Farnsworth got to watch the 15-minute IMAX 3D preview of "Doctor Strange" that Marvel showed to a handful of fans in October.

Benedict Cumberbatch tries out an American accent (for a change) as Dr. Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who goes on to become a Master of the Mystic Arts under the tutelage of Tilda Swinton's Ancient One.  Rachel McAdams and Madds Mikkelsen also star in the CG-heavy blockbuster.

Andy & Tysen liked the humor and visuals they got to see, but was there a possible Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity error in the preview?

Oct 7, 2016

"Westworld" is HBO's new reboot of the 1973 movie directed by the late Michael Crichton. SLC Fanboy Adam Thomas is blown away by the premiere episode, which he feels was superbly directed, scripted, edited, and scored.

The TV show takes the original concept behind "Westworld" a bit further. Instead of a movie about a theme park malfunctioning, the HBO series addresses the ideas of reality versus fantasy, and evolution.

Starring Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, Evan Rachael Wood, Thandie Newton, and Ed Harris, "Westworld" takes a closer look at the operations and day-to-day lives of the people who run, and populate, a fictional old west town turned amusement park. Imagine the holodeck from Star Trek: The Next Generation and another Crichton creation- Jurassic Park.

Although the HBO series does not require a background knowledge of the 1973 movie, the movie is a must-see for any sci-fi fan, for the numerous homages and inspirations that came after it.

Oct 6, 2016

DC Comics is doing well in the TV game right now with FOUR shows airing on the CW Network: The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow & Supergirl.

SLC Fanboy Andy Farnsworth sits down with Superman & DC Comics uber-fanboy Don Brinkerhoff to talk about the state of the CW-DC-TV-verse: where the characters find themselves as a new season begins & what we might have to look forward to.

In Part II, Andy & Don talk about the CW network's newest Superhero: Supergirl (aka Kara Zor-El aka Melissa Benoist).  Her show has moved from CBS after 1 season and now fully joins the rest of the DC TV shows on the network where it belongs.  The big news for Season 2 is her cousin Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin) joins the show--but for how many episodes?  What's up between Kara & (spoiler)? Also, how come there are so many "El's" running around the universe?

(WARNING: Major Season 1 spoilers, minor Season 2 spoilers)

SLC Fanboy Andy Farnsworth sits down with Superman & DC Comics uber-fanboy Don Brinkerhoff to talk about the state of the CW-DC-TV-verse: where the characters find themselves as a new season begins.

In Part I, Andy & Don talk about The Flash (starring Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Tom Cavanaugh, Danielle Panabaker and Jesse L. Martin) with Season 3 now underway, and how Barry's actions at the end of season 2 have set up the "Flashpoint" storyline.

(Warning: Major spoilers for Season 2 and mild spoilers for Season 3)

Sep 29, 2016

Is there a movie that's one of your favorites but it seems like nobody else has seen it? The SLC Fanboys have three such movies! Andy Farnsworth says he was inspired by a recent recommendation of "Johnny Dangerously" to come up with his favorite comedy that nobody's seen. His choice is "Oscar," a mobster comedy starring Sylvester Stallone.

Adam Thomas went with a Coen Brothers movie- "The Hudsucker Proxy," which bombed in limited release in the mid-1990's. Starring Tim Robbins and Paul Newman, the movie is a wild fictional comedy about corporate fraud surrounding the release of the Hula Hoop.

Finally, Tysen Webb went with another Coen Brothers movie that we suspect isn't getting enough attention after all of these years. "Raising Arizona" was released in 1987, but each of us can hum out the theme song. Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter, along with John Goodman as one of the villains, put together a comedy you have to see!

Sep 29, 2016

The final trailer has been released for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," the new trilogy coming from the Harry Potter universe. SLC Fanboy Andy Farnsworth provides some background on the story, and SLC Fanboys Tysen Webb and Adam Thomas are glad these movies aren't adapted from previously published books.

Dr. Strange is getting ready to expand the Marvel Universe. Benedict Cumberbatch also confirmed this week that he will indeed appear in "Avengers: Infinity War."

Special thanks to Everest Collision for powering the SLC Fanboys podcast!

Sep 22, 2016

The remake of Magnificent Seven is opening in theaters, and SLC Fanboys Andy Farnsworth and Adam Thomas believe it's a very watchable movie, if not original. The remake starring Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, and Chris Pratt is definitely a 21st century take on the western, complete with meta jokes and sarcastic asides.

Peter Saarsgard had some thoughts about making the villain more intimidating, and Andy and Adam agree that Vincent D'Onofrio was unrecognizable as a Grizzly Adams knockoff. They also admit some confusion involving the female lead.

Sep 21, 2016

There's a familiar new face composing the score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Michael Giacchino is replacing Alexandre Desplat, who is dropping out because of scheduling issues related to the reshoots. The SLC Fanboys discuss the effect of late composer changes and whether they can be a bad omen for the project.

Star Trek: Discovery is delayed until May 2017, and Fanboy Adam Thomas thinks it could be delayed again. Tom Cruise is still cranking out action movies, including the next Mission: Impossible entry. And Ducktales is making a comeback!

Sep 15, 2016

The 3rd season of Star Wars Rebels is set to premiere on September 24. SLC Fanboys Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb try to convince fellow fanboy Adam Thomas to catch up on the American 3D CGI animated television series. Set 14 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and 5 years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, theStar Wars Rebels features James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader.

The SLC Fanboys are looking forward to seeing more of Grand Admiral Thrawn and the sith formerly known as Darth Maul. The fates of Ahsoka, Ezra, and Kanan may be determined, and they're wondering if any new characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will appear. Episode date: September 15, 2016.

Sep 8, 2016

The first Star Trek TV episode aired in the U.S. 50 years ago today. Half a century later, SLC Fanboys Adam Thomas and Andy Farnsworth discuss the best scenes and episodes from the 13 movies and five series (six if you count the Animated Series, which we don't).

For the best scenes, Adam and Andy discussed:

-Star Trek III (Stealing the Enterprise)

-Star Trek 2009 (Labor of Love)

-Star Trek: The Next Generation (Kidnapping Locutus)

-Star Trek II (Surprise Attack, Spock's death)

And for the best episodes from all the series:

-City on the Edge of Forever (Star Trek)

-Cause & Effect (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

-In the Pale Moonlight (Deep Space Nine)

-The Thaw (Voyager)

Local Utah comic book artist Chris Hoffman joins Fanboys Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth at Salt Lake Comic Con 2016 to talk about his Utah-themed superhero comic "Salt City Strangers" and our favorite comic book storylines of all time.

This episode is also a part "origin" story for Andy, who grew up best friends with Chris, both earning their comic & Fanboy cred together.

It's called COMIC CON, but relatively few actually talk about comics!

Jeff Whipple with Megaplex theaters talks with Fanboys Tysen and Adam about the next big releases this year, including Doctor Strange and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Also, the movie theater experience itself and how it's evolved through the years and still offers the best all-around audio, visual, and even tribal experience when you watch a big movie on opening night with a like-minded audience.

SLC Fanboy Tysen Webb is joined by Fangirl Tamara Webb (spoiler alert: his wife) to talk about the Salt Lake Comic Con panel with Evanna Lynch.

Lynch is most famously known as Luna Lovegood in the "Harry Potter" movie franchise, but she's also appeared in other roles and even has gone on to do some modeling.

You may not like him when he's angry, but the SLC Fanboys found Lou Ferrigno, better known as The Incredible Hulk to be a pretty nice guy! He says his heroes are his family members and people with disabilities who work so hard to live life on their terms. We asked him how he continues to be in tiptop shape even years after his turn as the green muscle-man, what he's up to these days, and what he thinks about his third trip to Salt Lake City. Interview by Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb. Special thanks to Everest Collision Repair for powering our 2016 Salt Lake Comic Con coverage.

Thousands of people were at Vivint Arena for William Shatner's panel at Salt Lake Comic Con, including SLC Fanboys Adam Thomas and Andy Farsworth. The two talk about the questions that should have been asked (hint: we're not asking about Priceline), as well as Shatner's legendary... how do you put it? Shatnerisms? Also, he revealed he's working on a new project with Ben Folds.

Jeff Whipple from Megaplex Theaters and SLC Fanboys Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth break down the best moments from Mark Hamill's panel at Salt Lake Comic Con 2016.

Hamill's panel was originally planned to take place in the largest ballroom of the Salt Palace convention center. However demand to see Hamill, who is reprising his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode VIII next year, was so great that Salt Lake Comic Con organizers had to move the panel to the nearby Vivint SmartHome Arena to accommodate the crowds.

The summer of 1984 was full of legendary blockbuster releases and Tysen Webb chooses it as his favorite movie summer. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom took Harrison Ford to dark places (and eventually created the PG-13 rating), Gremlins gave us the horror-comedy genre. But Ghostbusters dominated the summer, with help from the Karate Kid and even Star Trek. Previously, Andy Farnsworth argued summer of 1991, and Adam Thomas the summer of 1989 as the best movie summers ever.

Aug 18, 2016

McKay Christensen of VR Junkies in Orem joins Fanboys Adam and Tysen to talk about the current state and future of virtual reality, including gaming. It's a technology that has come a long way, and the immediate future is both exciting and a little bit scary.

Aug 12, 2016

The new Rogue One trailer has dropped, and there are plenty of new scenes and potential character reveals/development! Andy and Adam were a little worried about seeing the Star Destroyer hover over a plateau in the atmosphere of a planet, but the music in the trailer might be a potential preview of what we'll hear in the movie from composer Alexander Desplat.

Details about Star Trek Discovery are still scant. Adam is worried. There are only five months left until the supposed premiere, and there's no word of major casting, production beginning, or anything else. Adam sends a letter to show creator Bryan Fuller, offering four major suggestions on how to avoid the typical slow start for a Star Trek series.

Aug 10, 2016

Special guest Faith Heaton Jolley from KSL.com joins the Fanboys to talk about remakes versus the originals. She wrote an article for KSL.com on this very topic three years ago, and got a ton of feedback.

Among the movies they weigh: Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory versus Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Also, John Wayne's True Grit versus the Coen Brothers' version. Andy talks about 21 Jump Street and Faith is pretty sure the new Footloose is better, among other things.

There is probably one movie, or one television show, maybe even one particular scene that may have shocked and traumatized you as a child that you remember vividly to this day. Well, the Fanboys have many of those moments. Adam is terrorized by 70's and 80's horror movies, Andy was shocked by movies he thought were going to be safe but still had gory scenes anyway. Tysen is a pretty tough guy, but there was a TV show that made him hide behind the couch.

Aug 4, 2016

Breaking news: one of the SLC Fanboys believes Suicide Squad is not a terrible movie, and you should not believe the overwhelming negative hype about it. Although this latest edition to the DC Comics universe has its flaws and the fanboys wonder about production problems and studio conflicts, it's an enjoyable action movie.

Jul 28, 2016

There are plenty of easter eggs in Star Trek Beyond. Fanboys Andy and Adam review some of them, then talk more about the movie. Warning! There are spoilers here, and that's OK because it's been a week since Beyond was released. Adam is also concerned about the development of Star Trek Discovery and wonders if the franchise is just destined to roll out series this way.

Jul 21, 2016

Plenty of Rogue One and Episode VIII news out of Star Wars Celebration Europe this week! From new characters (shoretroopers, shadow troopers) to new plot details (Han's funeral maybe?), to panels featuring director Gareth Edwards and stars Ben Mendelson (Director Orson Krennic) and Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso). Also, a secret trailer aired that the SLC Fanboys would love to find.  We finally got to hear from Alden Ehrenreich, the guy who will play young Han Solo in a couple of years.

Andy Farnsworth & Tysen Webb also got excited about the idea of Grand Admiral Thrawn on "Star Wars Rebels" and Adam Thomas bravely answered the question of what he would do if he got to go on the set of the Millennium Falcon!

Jul 20, 2016

SLC Fanboys Tysen Webb and Andy Farnsworth talk Ghostbusters with show host Doug Wright and movie critic Steve Salles on "The Movie Show" on KSL NewsRadio 102.7 FM & 1160 AM in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Also joining them (in full gear--though you can't see it) was SLC Ghostbuster Wes Roberts who also liked the film, despite his great love for the original with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.

Andy & Tysen double-down on their thoughts that the new movie with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones & Kate McKinnon is a fun summer flick.  Doug thinks it was a bit too reverential at times and just a step shy of parody at others.  Steve feels the reverential tone both helped and hurt it.

Jul 14, 2016

Brace yourselves, SLC Fanboys actually have generally positive things to say about the new Ghostbusters movie starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor).

Despite the trailer being the most disliked YouTube clip in history (almost 1M), director Paul Feig and producer Ivan Reitman have actually come up with a story that pays loving tribute to the classic 1984 film while having an original story and characters.

Jul 13, 2016

Pokémon Go is sweeping the country and the Fanboys are joined by a special guest to explain the game and the phenomenon. McKenzie Romero from the Deseret News has been a Pokémon fan since she was in middle school.

Jul 7, 2016

Andy Farsworth and Adam Thomas take a look back at the movies of the summer of 1989, which Adam argues is the strongest blockbuster summer, ever! Andy previously went with 1991, but '89 brings some strong competition with it.

There's Ghostbusters II, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Batman, for starters. Star Trek V bombed in the middle of that, and for reasons somewhat related to those other movies. Tim Burton's Batman redefined the comic book movie and don't forget about Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!

Jul 1, 2016

The SLC Fanboys go over the latest news, including the final Star Trek: Beyond trailer. Andy Farnsworth is impressed with Adam Thomas' reaction to the trailer, which includes a new song by Rihanna called "Sledgehammer". Also, Samuel L. Jackson doesn't think Mace Windu is dead, so will that have an effect on future Star Wars productions? Also, the Fanboys revisit their reviews of Independence Day: Resurgence, which is bombing at the domestic box office.

Jun 30, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk about Disney's new release, The BFG. It was directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Academy Award-winner Mark Rylance. Based on the Roald Dahl book.

Jun 24, 2016

Andy and Adam review Independence Day: Resurgence. It takes place 20 years after the original Independence Day showed the world how much fun it is to destroy landmarks. Will Smith's absence is notable, but Jeff Goldblum leads a cast of familiar returning stars, including Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman, and even a brief cameo from the late Robert Loggia. Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Jessie T. Usher join the cast.

Jun 23, 2016

The SLC Fanboys remember Anton Yelchin, who was best known for playing Chekov in the most recent run of Star Trek movies. Yelchin died on June 19th after he was involved in a freak car accident in his driveway. In addition to Star Trek, Yelchin appeared in "Curb Your Enthusiasm" as a young teenager, was the voice of Clumsy Smurf, and had many more roles.

We're also learning more details about "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," including character names and more casting details. Darth Vader is now confirmed to be making an appearance, and the SLC Fanboys discuss whether they would want to see the iconic villain in another lightsaber fight.

Jun 17, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk about one of the greatest summers ever for movies: 1991. "Terminator 2" set the bar for action/sci-fi flicks with special effects. Andy Farnsworth talks about his love of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," even with Kevin Costner's performance. "What About Bob" cracked up audiences, as well as "Hot Shots" with Charlie Sheen, and "City Slickers" with Billy Crystal and Academy Award-winner Jack Palance.

Jun 16, 2016

The Fanboys review "Finding Dory," the sequel to "Finding Nemo." Andy Farnsworth thought it was a great family show, but wonders whether the IMAX and/or 3D versions of the film are too much for younger kids. The movie was in development by Disney for a long time, and it's possibly the most anticipated direct sequel hitting theaters this year.

Jun 15, 2016

SLC Fanboys' Andy Farnsworth interviews Pixar’s Michael Stocker, the supervising animator on the new Disney/Pixar movie "Finding Dory."

Michael touches on his career at Disney including his work on previous films: Lion King, The Incredibles, Cars, Toy Story, Wall-E 3, Ratatouille as well as his specific work on Finding Dory. He also discusses actors Ty Burrell and Ellen Degeneres and their characters in the sure-to-be-blockbuster.

Jun 10, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk about Suicide Squad getting a PG-13 rating and whether that's a good idea. Josh Brolin is loving the plot of the next Avengers movie. Hayley Atwell has a problem with a scene with Captain America. Karl Urban apparently had a problem with Star Trek Beyond until he chatted with director Justin Lin. Finally, the fanboys talk about the expensive movie props they'd like to own, now that Disney is releasing a limited line of authentic Star Wars props.

Jun 10, 2016

The SLC Fanboys review "Warcraft," the 2016 movie based on the Blizzard video game franchise. Gamers are eager to find out if the Universal and Legendary pictures film will finally deter the haters. Find out now what we think... does Warcraft live up to its video game roots?

Jun 4, 2016

The 2nd annual Salt Lake Gaming Con is bringing thousands of gamers to the South Towne Expo Center this weekend. The Fanboys talk with Gaming Con founder Jake Williams and Comic Con founder Bryan Brandenberg about their two events and their new partnership.

Then, a discussion about classic video games, why Andy Farnsworth thinks Tecmo Super Bowl is the greatest sports game ever, and Adam Thomas assures us that Atari did make an original Star Wars game for the 2600.

Jun 2, 2016

The SLC Fanboys talk about news that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will undergo some reshoots this summer, after Disney execs reportedly balked at the tone of the first cut. The goal is to make it more like Episode IV, which it will directly precede in the timeline.

Then, we discuss memorable and emotional on-screen character deaths. Tysen Webb had a hard time with a specific character on "The Walking Dead." Andy Farnsworth has never recovered from Optimus Prime's murder in 1986's "Transformers: The Movie".  Adam Thomas hated how Star Trek killed Captain Kirk.

And of course, there was "The Force Awakens"...

May 26, 2016

SLC Fanboys Andy Farnsworth and Tysen Webb review the latest film in the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse.  X-Men fan Andy wishes this movie had not been released so close to the far superior "Captain America: Civil War".

Michael Fassbender returns as Magneto, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Oscar Isaacs (Poe Dameron himself--though you can't recognize him under all the makeup) joins the franchise as the titular Apocalypse.

May 26, 2016

The fanboys reveal which movies they're looking forward to the most this summer, which include Captain America: Civil War, Star Trek Beyond, and Ghostbusters. In the news, the casting is out for Thor: Ragnarok, a teaser slim on details is out for a new Star Trek series, and John Boyega says Star Wars VIII will be "darker." Plus we debate if Captain America is really a Hydra Agent.
